A new project, AIXPERT, has been launched to transform the development, deployment, and trustworthiness of AI across critical sectors like healthcare, human resources, creative industries, manufacturing, and robotics. This €7.5 million initiative, funded by Horizon Europe and the Swiss State Secretariat for Education, Research and Innovation (SERI), is building an adaptable AI-agentic platform to provide a consistent framework for explainability and accountability across diverse AI models. It will be applied in key areas including healthcare diagnosis, job applications and hiring processes, manufacturing, education and robotics, and creativity and music composition.
Making AI smarter, safer, and more understandable
Addressing growing public concerns around AI bias, opacity, and accountability, AIXPERT directly tackles challenges in AI explainability, transparency, autonomy, and robustness. The project’s innovative solutions include multimodal data integration for richer, more representative AI training; explainable decision-making to boost user trust and regulatory compliance; cross-disciplinary collaboration to reduce algorithmic bias; and scalable agentic tools, data, and services that can be deployed across various domains, from manufacturing to creative industries.
A global collaboration for trustworthy AI
This ambitious project unites an international consortium, led by Athena Research Center (Greece). The partners are: University of Barcelona, Barcelona Supercomputing Center, Stitching Amsterdam UMC, Kyklos LTD, Workable, Rijksuniversiteit Groningen, Philips, Sorbonne University and the Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique, Furhat Robotics, Orfium, Novelcore, Infinitivity Design Labs, ITML, Vector Institute, and Martel GmbH.

Martel’s role in driving AIXPERT’s impact
Martel’s contribution to AIXPERT is vital for ensuring the project’s innovations reach a wide and relevant audience. Martel leads communication and dissemination efforts, making certain that groundbreaking findings are effectively shared with policymakers, AI experts, HR professionals, the music industry, the healthcare sector, and the wider public. Furthermore, Martel spearheads the exploitation activities, strategically leveraging the project’s tangible results and intellectual property for maximum long-term impact and sustainability. Martel will also contribute to other work packages.
