Empowering Next Generation Media Ecosystems

Welcome to the Future

Martel Innovate has contributed to kick off the FLAME project, a three-year Horizon 2020 Research and Innovation Action that has the ambition to empower Next Generation Media Ecosystems.

FLAME will develop an integrated service delivery platform that utilizes advanced compute & storage as well as software-based communication infrastructures to define a methodology for real-life, large-scale experimentation of personalised, interactive, mobile and localised media experiments.

This three-year project is led by a strong and uniquely qualified consortium comprising University of Southampton, Atos Spain, InterDigital Europe, i2CAT, University of Bristol, Nextworks, Martel Innovate, VRT, The Walt Disney Company, ETH Zurich, Institut Municipal D’Informática de Barcelona, and Bristol is Open.

Within FLAME, the Martel Lab will explore how can Docker containers be deployed for friendly and replicable Next Generation  Experiments, while the Martel Media will be in charge of engagement and impact creation through the establishment and management of the 3rd Party Future Media Internet ecosystem powered by FLAME.

More than 2 Million Euro will be invested within the next 3 years by the FLAME project to increase its socio-economic impact by distributing funding between different ecosystem stakeholders” announces Dr. Monique Calisti, Executive Director of Martel and 3rd Party Project Manager of FLAME.

Our ambition is to build an ecosystem through experimentation by providing a platform, by providing the tools and by providing evidence via selected pilots that will run in Bristol and Barcelona – to start with. Besides funding, which will be made available via Open Calls to 3rd party organisations, the FLAME consortium will provide the means to engage new experimenters in Next Generation Media ecosystems.”

So lots of exciting work and challenges ahead for the whole Martel team in this new venture.
