Martel Innovate for User Engagement for Large Scale Pilots in IoT

Martel Innovate supported the organisation of the Kick-off meeting of a new Horizon 2020 project – User Engagement for Large Scale Pilots in the Internet of Things (U4IoT). The meeting took place on January 12th & 13th, 2017 in Brussels at Vinnova’s office (January 12th) as well as the premises of imec (January 13th).

U4IoT (2017-2019) is a Coordination and Support Action (CSA), designed to support the five selected Large Scale Pilots (LSPs) from the IoT-1 call. It will enable a citizen-driven process and analyse societal, ethical and ecological issues related to the pilots. The project aims to develop recommendations for tackling IoT adoption barriers, including educational needs and skill-building.

U4IoT combines complementary expertise from eight leading European partners from Sweden, Belgium, Switzerland, the Netherlands, Germany. They bring know-how in end-user engagement through crowdsourcing, Living Labs, providing co-creative workshops and meet-ups to support end-user engagement in the LSPs.

Martel Innovate is playing a key role in the project. On one hand, Martel supports the overall technical coordination of the project, facilitating the project management of the Coordinator; on the other hand, Martel will actively support the communication and dissemination of the project, utilising its outstanding resources in providing outreaching tasks and services.

The project is a major milestone for Martel’s involvement the landscape of European IoT research. The European Commission requires U4IoT to work closely with the other CSA project (CREATE-IOT) and with the LSPs to ensure impact that is commensurate with the large (€100m) budget invested in the IoT-LSP programme by the European Commission and Switzerland.

Martel is selected as one of the 2 organisations from U4IoT consortium to be involved in the IoT-LSP Cluster Activity Group for Communication, Collaboration, Strategy and Liaisons. We have the reason to believe that this will greatly facilitate Martel’s service provision to the IoT community in Europe and beyond.

The identity of U4IoT will be incorporated together with CREATE-IOT in the framework of a joint portal for the entire LSP programme.
