Strengthening European leadership in 6G technologies by enabling next-generation XR services and infrastructures
6G eXperimental Research Infrastructure to enable next-generation XR services (6G-XR) is building a cutting-edge, adaptable experimental infrastructure designed to showcase the performance of key B5G/6G candidate technologies, components, and architectures. This infrastructure evolves to stay relevant now, in the midterm, and in the long-term. 6G-XR is set to prove the technological feasibility of “better than 5G” KPIs, introduce innovative radio spectrum technologies, and explore the use and sharing of beyond 5G and 6G spectrum. It will validate a representative end-to-end beyond 5G architecture (and eventually 6G), including end-to-end service provisioning with slicing capabilities and at the cloud implementation level (Open RAN). As part of the European Smart Networks and Services Joint Undertaking (SNS JU), a dynamic public-private partnership, 6G-XR is driving Europe’s industrial leadership in 5G and 6G networks and services.
