SafeTouch is a Horizon Europe Innovation Action that aims to revolutionise surface hygiene through the development of smart, self-decontaminating microfilm technology for high-touch areas in healthcare and public environments.
By integrating ultrafast thermal activation and touch-sensitive components into flexible, antimicrobial films, SafeTouch introduces a chemical-free, on-demand disinfection solution. The project also envisions a connected hygiene management system, the Smart Hygiene Grid (SHG), enabling real-time monitoring and data-driven infection control.
Over 36 months, SafeTouch will prototype, validate, and prepare these technologies for commercialisation through interdisciplinary collaboration across material science, biomedical engineering, sustainability, and stakeholder engagement.
