On 4 March – World Obesity Day – we are proud to celebrate a major milestone for the European obesity community. The European cluster of obesity research projects, OBEClust, has been recognised with the EASO & ECPO World Obesity Day Europe Awards 2025 in the category Best Collaborative Project.
As a partner in BIO-STREAMS, actively contributing to OBEClust, Martel Innovate is pleased to support this award-winning collaboration advancing innovative, evidence-based solutions to address childhood and adolescent obesity across Europe.
The award highlights the strength of European cooperation in facing one of today’s most pressing public health challenges. We are especially proud that BIO-STREAMS Coordinator Eleftheria Vellidou (ICCS) accepted the prize on behalf of the cluster, a testament to the collective impact of the projects involved.

BIO-STREAMS, a four-year Research and Innovation Action (RIA) launched in May 2023, addresses the growing epidemic of childhood and adolescent obesity through personalised interventions powered by artificial intelligence.
At the core of its research lies a biobank, aiming to include genetic, environmental, behavioural, and clinical data from children across multiple European settings to enable AI-driven insights for understanding, predicting, and preventing childhood obesity in real-world healthcare and educational contexts.
BIO-STREAMS is developing and implementing:
- Clinical and school-based workshops
- A dedicated app for children and parents
- Targeted awareness and dissemination activities promoting knowledge of a healthy lifestyle and nutrition habits, and evidence-based research
As part of OBEClust’s joint activities, the project also contributed to two highly successful webinars, engaging more than 100 participants each and strengthening dialogue across the research and healthcare communities.
World Obesity Day serves as a reminder that collaboration, innovation and prevention must go hand in hand. Through initiatives such as BIO-STREAMS and the broader OBEClust cluster, Europe is advancing coordinated, science-driven solutions to improve health outcomes for younger generations.
Stay tuned for further updates!
